Poker In Poker Rooms or Playing Poker In an Online Poker Site

Playing poker in a poker room can be very expensive if you are not paying attention. Distractions are rampant in the poker room. The noise, smoke, and movement of people all can cloud your mind when you are trying to make a decision.

Playing poker at the local Indian casino can be a trial on self control. You most likely will have to put your name on a list and wait for a seat. This is where they can get you. istead of saving your poker stake for the game the temptation is to drop a few bills into a slot machine while you wait for your name to be called. If you have to wait for an hour or more to claim your seat you can loose quite a bit to the slots. They are the bread and butter of the casino.

Take a few minutes to look around. Pick the poker you would like to play. Texas Holdem, Seven Card Stud, Seven Stud H/L, and Omaha, Omaha H/L. They all have differnet betting levels to choose from. Be aware that online poker is faster than playing in a brick and mortar casino. Yet, you are still playing casino poker with real live people. At first it will seem overwhealmingly fast. But as you play you will get used to the speed. Two weeks from now you will wish the other poker players would make a decision and GET ON WITH IT

The luck of the draw is going to put you in a bad position a lot of the time. You may have position on the table and be able to read the other players like a book but that will do you no good unless you have some cards to play. You can make your own luck. It is called bluffing and should be done when you are sure that your opponents have weak or middle rank hands. Lady Luck

I was over to Pacific Poker last night playing No limit Texas Holdem. I could not believe the hands that I was pulling. Poker had never been so good. It was great, unfortunately, I was playing in the free games so here was no real money coming my way. I had no idea how long the streak was going to last so I immediately switched over to the real money poker game. I had deposited $100 in an account months ago and had built it up almost $150. Not enough of a stake to play no limit but certainly enough to play in one of the limit games.

There are people who seem to be lucky. The more I have thought about it the more I think that these people have just as much good luck as the rest of us but somehow they seem to recognize when they are in a lucky streak and play Holdem balls to the wall until the streak ends.

Holdem Poker

Playing Holdem poker is a very shallow learning curve. The more you play Texas Holdem the more you learn about the game and the more you learn about yourself. For beginning players download the poker software so you can play in real time with real people from all over the world. Play the free games for a while until you get used to the interface. It will seem to move very quickly at first. But the more you play poker the more used to it you will become. Playing any kind of poker is about money, of course, so when you do deposit money in the account be sure and take it slow and easy. If you begin to lose, it is almost axiomatic that you are playing too many hands. More on Texas Holdem Poker

The most important thing that you can do is to make sure that you do not have any tells of your own. The shaking hands, nervous itch, or facial tick can all be eliminated by practice. Put a mirror next to your monitor when you play online and see what you are giving away. Play Texas Holdem For The long Run

You may win a Holdem game or two when you first begin to play. Sometimes it can be put down to beginners luck, but even these early wins should take into account the long term. More On Texas Holdem

You are going to find times when the cards run hot and the cards run cold. It all evens out over the long term. That is why strategy is so important when playing Texas Holdem. The best Holdem strategy is going to take the money. Nothing is feared more than the unknown. If you can develop a strategy that is able to shift gears during a game and become so unpredictable that you opponents don't know what you are going to do. Then you will have an edge. Vary the hands that you are willing to play. Once in awhile see the flop with Jack/3 off suit. Or some other equally bad hand. Do it as cheaply as you can. Remember that playing for the long run means that the cards will equal out over time. Time and hours of play will knock off the high spots and level out the bad runs. If you think that you on the verge of tilting. Get out of the game fast. Do something else for a couple of hours. Play Craps or Black Jack and come back to the game when you have calmed down.

The Art Of Poker

The art of poker has been called the art of raising. If you play, as I do, only a few hands an hour then it is essential to get as much money into the pot as possible when you have a winning hand. There are people who will call any raise even if they could not make a poker hand out of the next ten cards. These people are known as LOSERS. If you do not have a hand after the flop or the possibility of the best hand then you need to drop and try again the next hand...More

The Deal

The deal will change every time a new hand is played so you need not pay attention to who is dealing the cards. Pay attention to the guy who has the deal though. Position on the table can dictate how you bet. The dealer is in the best position to steal the blinds with a raise.

The River - Live or Die

It is said that, "You live or die on the river". I played Holdem at the IP in Vegas with a guy who was good enough to get some folks to bankroll him the ten large that he need to enter one of the big tournaments. He was half disgusted by the fact that he was knocked out early by, " Some dot commer who caught a straight on the river. She did not have the poker sense to drop before the flop." Which just shows to for ya that not everybody has read the book. LOL

Sometimes it just pays to go with the gut. Unless you have the nut flush or the nut straight you can still get beat on the river.

You Can Count On it

There is always one. Try to get this guy on your right. You can count on him to raise and even re-raise. He finds it almost impossible to just call a hand. He has to have the flash and the excitement of raising to have any fun. Always thinks that he is lucky because he never remembers the hands that he lost, only the hands that he won on the River. He should have, "Check/Raise Me" stamped on his forehead.

The Flop in Texas Holdem

The moment that defines your hand is the flop. If you do not have the best hand, a draw to the best hand, or most likely the best hand after the flop then fold. Chasing a double inside straight or hoping for a set on the river will just cost you money in the long run. Get the hell out of the game and watch the other players. just because you have mucked your cards does not mean you r job is done. This is a great time to try and spot a tell. Don't Play Texas Holdem For Comps

But be sure and take them if they are available. When you play in a real world casino be sure and give the dealer your players card so that they can track your play. They are free to get and unless you are a real high roller it is the only way the casino has a checking your comp level. You can get food and rooms for free and this all adds into your bottom line. It is not all what you get from them in the, "Right Now" but the offers that you will get in the mail throughout the course of the year that make it valuable. A free room for a couple of nights can put an extra couple of hundred dollars in your pocket. But if you set at the table an extra fifteen minutes to get your full hour in for the comp then you are a long term loser. Never ever let the thought of the comp govern your play. Trying to get free stuff almost always costs you money. Suppose you want a drink and you know if you sit down at a slot machine there will be a pretty girl along to get you a drink for free. Go to the bar. Pay the six bucks to twelve bucks or whatever it costs. The "free" drink at the slot is going to cost you a lot more in the long run.

Taking a Break from Texas Holdem

I find that I can play Texas Holdem poker online for hours. But there are time that I'm too antsy for it - playing Holdem properly requires patience, and sometimes you're sitting for long periods of time playing very few hands. If I start to go crazy, I'm more likely to play hands that I shouldn't.
Instead, I try taking a break, playing other online poker games with a little faster action, like Hi/Lo Stud or Omaha. There are some great online sites with other types of poker - find out more about the best sites for online poker games here.

The Business of Poker

I have heard the statistic that every American lives within three hundred miles of a casino. I myself live within fifty miles of a casino. That may seem very close but it takes an hour to drive there and an hour to drive back. Keep track of your expenses. When figuring your earnings on poker you have to take into consideration the cost of gasoline, food and drink. The last person that you want to bluff is yourself. You should know almost to the penny how much it costs you to play and how much you have won. If the two balance out pretty even, at the very least you have had fun and there is a possibility that playing poker can be an income boost for you.
I play online poker a lot. Number one because I don't have to turn the key to start up the 305 horse power engine in my truck and watch as it sucks gas down. These guys run the biggest game in town (Click Here). It is secure honest, and you can play for free as long as you want.

Position In Texas Holdem Poker

Playing on line can sort of distort the picture for you. For one thing it makes position on the table to seem to be more of a minor thing than it really is. The play moves way to fast at times and they give you buttons to click so that you can automatically call or raise a bet. It is of course to their advantage to move the game along as fast as they can. They make their money on the pot rake. Notice when you play on line that the dealer has a slot next to his right hand. The money that accumulates there is the pot rake. Of course, in a play money game it does not cost you anything to play. In a game played for real money it is a factor and should be taken into account. The fewer hands that you play. The less you pay...More

Black Jack Poker Hands

When you are just starting out playing Texas Holdem play only what I call the Black Jack hands. Those are the cards that add up to 20 or 21. Aces are eleven and face cards are ten. Playing this tight is not going to make you a lot of money. The other players are taking your measure just as you are taking theirs. While it will not make you a fortune it will reduce your losses while you learn to play the game. Poker is a game almost magic in it's subtly. You have tons of stuff to learn and do not want to pay a high price for the lessons.

Make Them Pay

Pay particular attention to the two people to your left. Once you have passed the button on to them you may be able to buy it back with a raise. Raising in late position will confuse the enemy. He will not be entirely sure of the reason for the raise. Are you running a bluff? Are you looking for information? Or are you just trying to get folks out of the game because you do not have a real strong hand like AK? If you have AA or KK you should be raising anyway. You are sitting with the best pre-flop hand with Ace,Ace. It is time to try and drive as many out of the game as possible. Make them take a long hard look at what they can gain(The size of the pot) compared what they have to risk to get it. You do not want someone holding suited hole cards to be able to see the flop on the cheap. Even if you hold Ace, King and draw the not straight he can beat you with a flush. Make him pay to see the flop.

Cut Through The Fog

It has happened to me more than once. I will let hand after hand go by and not be able to play for an hour. When I begin to get bored with not playing I am making a big mistake. You are there and should be paying attention to ALL the hands weather you have money invested or not. Use the time to begin cataloging all the players. I watch the guy on the button. Will he play any cards dealt no matter how poor they are because he likes the position? If no one has raised the blind will he raise to try and steal the blinds? Texas Holdem is a lot like war. If you can cut through the fog of war with information you will make money.

The Best Holdem Strategy

Let's talk about Big Slick for a minute. AK is a terrific hand BEFORE the flop. After the flop you might want to discard Big Slick like it was 6, 9 off suit. Before the flop you will want to raise. You raise to get people out of the pot who might be able to beat you. Let's face it, if the flop gives him a pair of deuces he has you beat so you want to pull in your horns if the flop did not significantly improve your hand. It is a good idea for the beginner whose patience is being tested, by seeing bad hand after bad hand to watch out for the trap of over enthusiasm. Look Here for The Best Strategy

Holdem Tell

While playing in Vegas I sat across from a guy who had a tell that was not to be believed. He would get a great big smile on his face every time he had a good hand. I did not think that a tell this, well telling was possible. But it was. I am sure that he believed that he had a poker face and no tell whatsoever. One of the bad things about Texas Holdem is that just because you have spotted a tell does not mean that you will make any money off it. by beating the player with the nut hand. Lots of times all you do is save money by not calling.

Las Vegas Poker Rooms

Well, that is not entirely true. I do ride around in limousines from time to time. But it sure is not a regular thing. When I land at the airport in Las Vegas I always take a limousine to the hotel If you are ever going to be rich I think that you have to pretend that you are rich first. Besides, riding in limousines with girls is fun.

This last trip we stayed at the
Golden Nugget.
They say on their website
"High stakes. Big takes. The Poker Room is back! No bluff. The Poker Room is back and ready for action. Hands down - the Golden Nugget offers the hottest Poker in town! Try your luck in our house and focus on your game..."
They are a class act all the way. The Poker room only has eight tables but it is in a nice spot near the edge of the casino floor. They have tournaments twice daily and you can win up to $3000.00. I did not get to play as much as I wanted to. A friend of mine has gotten the craps bug and we played more of that than Poker. The games I did play did not end in any spectacular wins but it was a lot of fun. It did a lot for me to dispel the fear of playing with the big guys. There was a hand or two when I was one of them. You could tell by the cards that I held.
